At Regency Rehabilitation Center, we think that residents with Alzheimer's disease are very special people, so we offer a lifestyle filled with dignity. We work individually with each resident to help them utilize their maximum potential.
The greatest challenge for anyone who cares for a relative with Alzheimer's disease is accepting the fact that their loved one is no longer able to handle his or her own needs on a day-to-day basis. The second challenge is knowing what to do and where to turn for help. At Regency we are proud to have combined all the latest knowledge and design research to provide an unrivaled, one-of-a-kind Alzheimer's unit.
Based on consultations with design experts who specialize in Alzheimer's treatment centers, Regency designed its Alzheimer's Unit. Researchers have proven that different and varying design elements along with diffused lighting and color schemes from the past have a significant and positive calming effect on behavior and contentment when they are artfully recreated. The Regency Alzheimer's Unit brings together colors, patterns and materials which aid in memory retention while providing a true home-like atmosphere as well as a state-of-the-art therapeutic environment.
In 1994, Regency's Alzheimer's unit was named as, "One of 35 Alzheimer's Units in the United States to be Awarded Joint Commission Accreditation".
The Alzheimer's Association Greater Chicagoland Chapter meets regularly at Regency, offering families and friends an ongoing support system. Families are an integral and vital part of our program and they are encouraged to visit us as much as possible, and are included in activities and trips.
In Regency's Alzheimer's Unit, restraints are non-existent. Behavior management is achieved through staff intervention as opposed to the use of psychotropic medication. These two important areas are tremendous accomplishments achieved by Regency and its highly-trained staff.
